MXR

American effects pedal brand

MXR is an American effects pedal brand founded by Keith Barr and Terry Sherwood in Rochester, New York, in the early 1970s. Its early stompboxes — the Phase 90, Distortion+, Dyna Comp, and Blue Box — brought studio-quality effects to guitarists in rugged, simple enclosures and became stage and studio standards. After MXR ceased operations in the 1980s, Jim Dunlop acquired the brand, reissued the original pedals, and added modern classics such as the Carbon Copy analog delay.

The MXR M300 Reverb delivers six distinct reverb styles — including plate, spring, and shimmer voices — tuned by the MXR design team. It features a hi-fi analog dry path with a massive 20 volts of headroom via Constant Headroom Technology, all in a standard-sized MXR enclosure with a simple three-knob setup.

  • MXR Dyna Comp

    Effects pedal · United States

The MXR Dyna Comp (model M102) is one of the most popular compressor pedals ever made. With simple Output and Sensitivity controls it can tighten up a signal, add rich sustain, or produce the percussive, clicky attack heard on countless hit records. It has been a long-running secret weapon on professional pedalboards.

  • MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay

    Effects pedal · United States

The MXR Carbon Copy (model M169) is a fully analog delay pedal built on old-school bucket-brigade technology for rich, warm repeats. It offers up to 600ms of delay time, a simple three-knob layout of Delay, Mix, and Regen, and optional modulation engaged by a top-mounted switch. It is a modern MXR classic widely used for warm, organic echo.

  • MXR Phase 90

    Effects pedal · United States

The MXR Phase 90 (model M101) is a single-knob phaser pedal and one of the most recognizable modulation effects ever made. A single Rate knob takes the effect from a subtle, spatial shimmer to all-out high-velocity swooshing. Introduced as MXR's first product in the early 1970s, its warm, organic phasing has appeared on countless recordings and remains a pedalboard staple.

  • MXR Distortion+

    Effects pedal · United States

The MXR Distortion+ (model M104) is a classic hard-clipping distortion pedal with Output and Distortion controls. It ranges from cool overdriven blues tones to huge 1980s hard-rock distortion and was one of MXR's original four pedals. Its smooth, compressed clipping made it a defining sound for many early metal and hard-rock players.
