Upton Brescian Double Bass
Double bass · United States
The Upton Brescian is a hand-built double bass referencing the style Vincenzo Panormo brought to England in the 18th century, which influenced makers such as Lott, Kennedy, Fendt, and Hawkes. Its design features large shoulders, violin corners, deep ribs, dramatic top arching, and a pronounced canted back, giving a powerful, projecting voice favored for both orchestral and jazz playing. It is built by hand at the Upton Bass workshop in Mystic, Connecticut, in carved and hybrid configurations.
