Gibson L-7

A non-cutaway carved-top archtop from the 1930s, the L-7 sat in the upper tier of Gibson's acoustic archtop line. Its strong projection made it well suited to rhythm work in jazz and dance bands.

An early Gibson model that began as an archtop and was reborn as a small flat-top in the mid-1920s. The flat-top L-1 is closely associated with early blues and is remembered through its links to Delta blues history.

Gibson L-5

Introduced in 1922 under acoustic engineer Lloyd Loar, the L-5 was the first guitar with f-holes and set the template for the modern archtop. As Gibson's premier jazz and big-band guitar, it was played by figures from Maybelle Carter to Wes Montgomery.
