Gibson F-5
F-style mandolin model
The Gibson F-5 is the archetypal F-style mandolin, introduced in 1922 and refined under acoustic engineer Lloyd Loar. It pairs a carved solid spruce top with figured maple back and sides, violin-style f-holes, a longer neck with fifteen frets clear of the body, and the scrolled body that became the reference design for bluegrass mandolins.
