Canopus Zelkova

Solid keyaki-shelled snare

The Zelkova snare is turned from solid Japanese zelkova (keyaki), a dense hardwood used in temple construction, giving a hard, focused crack quite unlike a ply shell.

Snare drums and snare drum model families, including metal-shell and wood-shell snares.

Made by

  • Canopus

Canopus builds in Tokyo with an unusually explicit vintage brief: thin shells, reinforcement rings, and a parts catalogue — bearing edges, hoops, snare wires — sold to drummers rebuilding other makers' drums. The Zelkova and Yaiba lines are its best known.
