    An electric piano invented by Harold Rhodes in which felt-tipped hammers strike thin metal tines, whose vibrations are converted to sound by electromagnetic pickups. Produced by Fender and later under the Rhodes name, its bell-like tone became a defining sound of jazz, soul, funk, and pop keyboards.
