Craviotto
Solid steam-bent one-ply shells
Johnny Craviotto revived the solid-shell drum, steam-bending a single plank into a shell with one vertical seam rather than gluing plies. The result is loud and dry, and the process is slow enough that every drum is dated and signed. The company continues in Santa Cruz.

Craviotto Solid Shell Snare
Percussion · United States
Craviotto's snares are steam-bent from a single plank of maple, birch, walnut, or cherry, leaving one vertical seam and no glue lines through the shell. They are loud, dry, and dated and signed by the builder.

Craviotto Solid Shell Kit
Drum kit · United States
Building a full kit out of solid steam-bent shells is slow and expensive, and the result is unusually loud and open — closer to a set of orchestral drums than a modern ply kit.
